Our KENYA Photo Safari
Have you ever thought of a
Safari Adventure? It had been a life-long
dream of both Fran and I, to go to Kenya on a Wildlife Safari. It all came together in
January 2011. An itinerary was presented
to us for a Private Safari for 3 persons. Our granddaughter, Nicole, was going
with us.
Various factors had to be
considered in our decision including Cost, Time of Year, Air Fare, Payment
Schedule, etc. We left Canada Jan 6th,
2011 and after a brief stay in England, arrived in Nairobi, Jan 10th. We were met by the tour
operator and taken to a modest priced Hotel, in Nairobi, Boulevard.
The following morning we
met our driver/guide Sam, for an orientation session. This was to be the
beginning of a most exciting and rewarding experience. Early morning and we are
off in our Toyota Mini Van with Pop Top for 360 degree viewing. We continued our 10 day
Safari covering the listed Lodges, being treated to wonderful accommodation and
spectacular meals.
The animal viewing on the
various game drives was breathtaking. There we were, as close as 50 feet from
roaming Elephants, White Rhinos, Buffalo, Lions sleeping under a tree, Cheetahs
with Cubs, learning how to hunt and the list goes on, including the “Big 5”.
We shot over 800 photos
with our Digital Camera with a 20x zoom lens. Sam, our guide, was expert
in his knowledge of the animals and was very serious about making sure we were
well looked after. He made the day’s activities flow.
When the last day came, we
said goodbye to the vast expanse of the Savannah and returned to Nairobi and the
Hotel. Leaving us with a full day
in Nairobi, gave us a chance to visit the city before heading back to London and
then Canada.
We look forward to passing
on any information we have, to anyone interested in a Kenya Safari.
Believe us, it is a
wonderful experience.
